It is time to get Acquainted with your fellow teacher bloggers!!!
Topic- Tic Tac Toe
How it Works: Look at the graphic below. It is a Tic Tac Toe board filled with different categories. You will post about three of these categories but they have to make Tic Tac Toe. For example, you can choose to write about 3 topics that go vertical, or 3 topics that go horizontal, or three topics that go diagonal.
I am doing the first vertical column.
I went to ____ College and favorite Memory
I went to Tennessee State University. It is located in Nashville, Tennessee. It is a Historically Black University with a rich history and has been around for 101 years. My two sisters also went to TSU so I guess it is a family tradition. My favorite college memory would have to be from freshman year. I met my husband on the second day that I was there. We became friends and the rest was history. We are both from the same hometown but had never met before. I am grateful for my college experience and thankful that it had such an impact on my life. Go tigers!!!
My first year of teaching
All I can say is oh goodness! My first year of teaching was crazy. When I first accepted my teaching position it was for 2nd grade. I was so excited because I student taught in second grade and I really felt like I was ready. Well….a week before school started I was told I would actually be teaching 3rd grade. I was also told that I would be in a portable. But not just any portable but a double wide portable that would be shared with another 3rd grade teacher. This was not a big deal accept for the fact that the portable did not have a wall separating the two classrooms. We went a week with this big open space and two classes. Can we say awkward. lol. Anyways, they finally built a wall and a door and everything was fine. Only it wasn’t. I only had 9 students. So you know what that means. Third grade was low and kindergarten was high. They needed a teacher to go to kindergarten and guess who they chose……ME! Six weeks into the year and my world was rocked. They came to my half of a portable and told me and I cried right there in front of both principals. I was very sad about it but I saw two positives out of it. One-They gave me money to go on a shopping spree to get kindergarten things for the room. Two-They gave me 3 days to get my room ready with no kids. I thought I would be moved in the building but no. So there I was a new teacher stuck in a tiny half of a portable with 20 kindergarteners and no restroom. Let’s just say I had a crazy year. All I can do now is laugh about it. It really shaped me to be a flexible teacher and say it is what it is and just move on.
My favorite grade to teach and why
First Grade of Course!!! I really love teaching this age group because they are a little more mature than kindergarten. This year will be my 3rd year in first grade and I will be grade level chair. I am kind of nervous about the responsibility but I think it will be a learning experience. If you have any advice for me, please leave me some comments on good ideas for a grade level chair.
